THE TILE CROSS ACADEMY FUND
This initiative is being launched in May 2019 as a vehicle to provide greater opportunities for our pupils that the school cannot afford to fund from reducing statutory finances.
Our launch campaign is to raise £50 000 to establish a ‘Performance Participation Programme’; this will enable pupils to access and participate in extracurricular music, drama, and sporting activities.
We recognise how valuable and life changing these activities are to the personal development of a child and how they impact on the adult they become. Pupils from Tile Cross Academy are some of the most disadvantaged in the West Midlands and come from families where these chances, for a variety of reasons, are not provided outside of school life. We understand how these chances enrich children’s lives. If the parents can’t or won’t pay, the school has to find the money. Currently, at least 42% of pupils are entitled to Free School Meals and 53% qualify for the Pupil Premium fund from central government which are measures of the levels of deprivation faced by our pupils.
These activities are valued as much by employers as academic qualifications. To enable social mobility and allow our pupils to compete with more privileged children for the best jobs it is essential that we can promote a broad range of performance based activities.
To give an example of costs:
- A one hour group music lesson for six students, including instrument loan, costs £50.
- A typical sports coach costs £30 an hour.
- Membership of the Hippodrome Education Network costs £5000 per year.
The following naming rights are available:
- The Performance Centre
- The Sports Hall
- The Music Classroom
- The PE Classroom
- The Art Classroom
- The Business and ICT Room
- The two Music rehearsal rooms
- The two changing rooms
- The fitness suite
For £50 supporters can have their name add to the donor walls inside the building. For £100 this could include a logo, photograph, or badge of one of the former schools.
The school is part of Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust which has a central bank account for all the schools. Any money given will be ring fenced in the ‘Tile Cross Academy Fund’ cost centre and will go directly to supporting children, allowing them to explore the wider cultural life that many of us experienced in our journey through education. The Trust can claim Gift Aid on donations.
